How to Get to Makkah from Jeddah Airport (2026 Guide)
Quick answer
Most international pilgrims land at King Abdulaziz International Airport (JED) in Jeddah, about 100 km from Makkah. You have four realistic options to reach the holy city — here's how they compare on time, cost and convenience, so you can choose before you land.
Option 1: Private airport taxi (recommended for most travellers)
A pre-booked private taxi picks you up at Terminal 1 arrivals and drives you directly to your Makkah hotel in about 1 hour 15 minutes. The fare is fixed and confirmed on WhatsApp before you land, your driver tracks your flight for delays, and there's room for all your luggage.
This is the best option if you're travelling as a family or group, landing late at night, carrying heavy bags, or simply want the simplest arrival after a long flight. One vehicle, one fare, door to door.
Option 2: Haramain high-speed train
The Haramain train has a KAIA station right in the airport complex, with trains reaching Makkah in about 30–35 minutes. But not every train stops at the airport station, departures follow a fixed timetable (check the official portal sar.hhr.sa before counting on one), and you still need a taxi from Makkah station to your hotel.
Tickets are booked online in advance and luggage is limited (around 25 kg per bag with size restrictions). Good for solo travellers with light bags and a well-timed departure; awkward for families, night arrivals and heavy luggage. Our full train-vs-taxi comparison breaks it down in detail.
Option 3: Bus and shuttle services
Several bus operators run between Jeddah and Makkah, including services aimed at pilgrims. They're the cheapest per-person option but the slowest: fixed departure points (not the airport terminal), scheduled times, and multiple stops. Fine for budget solo travellers with time to spare; impractical with family and bags.
Option 4: Ride-hailing apps
Uber, Careem and Bolt operate at JED. They work, but prices surge during busy arrival banks, drivers sometimes cancel airport pickups, and you'll still need to find your driver in the pickup zones. For a 100 km intercity trip to Makkah, a pre-agreed fixed fare is usually calmer and often cheaper than a surged app price.
Our recommendation
Landing with family, bags, or at an odd hour? Pre-book the private taxi — it's the fastest door-to-door option and the least stressful. Solo with one bag landing mid-day? The train is a fine alternative. Either way, have your transport decided before you land: the arrivals hall is no place to start comparing options.
